Team Details

2018-2019 Media Crew team members

The Media Crew is a service group at Momilani Elementary in which students learn about teamwork, collaboration, and communucation through authentic hands on media based projects. These projects require students to be dynamic problem solvers while expressing a more creative side through the use of 21st century digital skills.

“You can't use up creativity.

The more you use, the more you have.”

― Maya Angelou

Originally, this group was brought together to produce the school yearbook and now it has grown to include a school e-newsletter, and video production. By having students create the yearbook we hope to provide them with a greater sense of ownership and responsibility. This project includes learning computer literacy skills such as photo editing, page layouts, and file management. The learning goes beyond as well, students learn to work in teams, meet deadlines, and accomplish goals through perseverance.

Monthly e-Newsletter

Each month the Media Crew spends time to decide on articles for the school website. Each article team consists of a writer, editor, and photographer. Each has different responsibilities related to producing a quality article for the newsletter each month.

Video Production

As we begin expanding our services to include video production, we are learning how to use the cameras, tripods, WeVideo, and positioning. We hope that soon we will be producing the drama performances, video interviews, and other projects.

Mrs. Hasegawa-McOuat

I have been at Momilani Elementary School since 2006. I have experience teaching 4th grade, 1st grade, technology to K-2, and 2nd grade. Before teaching at Momilani, I was in Japan for 2 years on the JET program and taught preschool to adults how to speak/write in English. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood and a master's degree in Educational Technology from University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Teaching brings me so much joy especially when I see students' eyes light up when they are able to understand the standard I am trying to teach them. Students are what drives me to do my best, their thirst for knowledge makes me want to teach more, I know that we can learn from each other. I believe that every student, no matter how young or old, can learn to be independent if you let him or her. My students will always hear me say, "Try your best."
