Blessing of New Cafeteria Outdoor Area by Kupuna Pang

Dec. 6, 2021

Aloha Momilani 'Ohana,

On Monday, December 6, 2021, the newly finished outdoor seating area of the Momilani Cafeteria was given a traditional Hawaiian Blessing by our beloved Kupuna Pang.

The outdoor seating was named as the "Eagles Landing" and is a gated and covered area to be used as an extension to the cafeteria.  Last week, students from multiple grade levels began using the outdoor area as their assigned area to eat their lunch.

The blessing was observed by the 6th Grade Class, accompanied by Mrs. Yasui and Mr. Nieva, who recited the Momilani Chant for Kupuna Pang.

We are grateful to have the additional area for use by our students, and we appreciate Kupuna Pang coming down to the Momilani Campus on a rainy morning to bless our new area.

Welcome Mrs. Sesepasara-Willilams, Momilani's new Assistant Principal

July 14, 2021

Aloha Momilani 'Ohana,

We would like to welcome to our Momilani Staff, Mrs. Sesepasara-Williams as our new Assistant Principal.  We are excited to begin a new chapter at Momilani Elementary School this year, with exciting new staffing changes.

Please see the following message from Mrs. Sesepasara-Williams:

Aloha and welcome to a new and exciting school year! My name is Mrs. Sesepasara-Williams, the new Assistant Principal here at Momilani Elementary. I am excited to start this journey with all of you. A little bit about myself, I have been with the Hawaii Department of Education since 2003. I received my Bachelors in Education from the University of Arizona in 2001 and my Masters in Education from Chaminade in 2005. I have worked in the elementary field for 17 years both as a teacher and Curriculum Coordinator before moving to administration. I spent last year as a Vice Principal at Moanalua High School and am happy to return to the elementary field.

My philosophy in regards to the education of our keiki is this: I truly believe that our purpose as educators is to empower students to take charge of their own learning and that the delivery of it should be innovative and come from a place of compassion and empathy. We must actively involve our families and communities to work together as a collective to provide our students with a quality education as well as social-emotional support that will guide our students to reach their individual potential. Empowering our keiki to take charge and responsibility for their own learning and futures will result in providing them with the necessary life skills that will help them succeed regardless of their background or the path they decide to take after high school. If we work together, we can fulfill the school’s vision, “Momilani Elementary students are caring, responsible, and self-directed learners who positively contribute to society.”

Congratulations to the Momilani 6th Grade Class of 2021

May 28, 2021

Aloha Momilani 'Ohana,

Congratulations to the 6th Grade students for successfully completing their educational journey at Momilani.  We proudly applaud and congratulate their promotion to Middle School, and wish them well as they begin the next chapter of their educational adventure.

On Thursday, May 27th, the 6th Grade teachers hosted a virtual awards presentation in the Momilani cafeteria for the students.  Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, no guests were allowed to attend the ceremony.  However, through the use of our Google accounts, we were able to present the event live on a Google Meet, and were able to record the event for future viewing.

If you would like to view the 6th Grade Award Presentation, please click on the link below.  Thank you for your support, and congratulations again to the Momilani 6th Grade Class of 2021!

Grade 1 Virtual Drama Performance - Leap Day

Grade 1 Drama Performance - Leap Day

May 24, 2021

Aloha Momilani 'Ohana,

Leap Day happens once every four years. On Leap Day, Father Time, Mother Nature, their assistants, the clocks, and the days of the week have an amazing party! However, the days of the week are very unhappy because they want Father Time to make an extra day to add to the week. When Mother Nature hears this, she becomes furious at Father Time and threatens to fire him if he doesn't make the days happy again. Meanwhile, Tuesday starts to have friendship issues with Friday, making her think that she needs to change herself so that others will like her better.

Please join our 1st Grade students as they bring this drama to life in Momilani Elementary School's first ever virtual drama performance, and see how grit, perseverance, and true friendship play vital roles when faced with obstacles and challenges.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as you take a virtual trip to Father Time's house in the 1st Grade drama performance, Leap Day!

Mahalo - 2021 Spring Olympics & Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge

Thank you for supporting the 2021 Spring Olympics

May 17, 2021

Aloha Momilani Ohana,

We wanted to thank everyone who was able to participate in the 2021 Momilani Spring Olympics / Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge this year!  Although we had many obstacles and challenges to face this school year, we were amazed at the amount of students who were able to participate in this school wide event.

Overall, we had close to 300 students participate in the Wellness Challenge, and over 700 family members who joined the students in their weeklong challenge.

We would also like to thank everyone for their heartfelt generosity this year which helped us to raise close to $23,000 in donations!  Your generosity will help to support Momilani in many different ways.

Hopefully, the Wellness Challenge Finishers Masks will arrive soon.  We will distribute the masks to the students prior to the end of the school year.

Thank you again for your support and generosity this year.  We hope you enjoyed the Spring Olympics /Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge this year.  Take care and keep up your wellness!

It’s GO TIME!  Our annual Spring Olympics / Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge 2021 is finally here!  Due to Covid guidelines for social distancing we are doing a Virtual Wellness Challenge this year.  This week starting April 26, in-person learning students will receive an envelope and letter from their teacher explaining the Spring Olympics / Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge.  Full Distance learners will be able to download the forms at the bottom of this post.

Students, along with their family, should try to challenge themselves to all 11 activities on the scorecard.  Please take time this week to plan your activities and complete them NEXT WEEK from MAY 1- 8.  Fill out the Challenge Scorecard, keep track of your activities, and sign the pledge. Momilani student challengers who complete 7 or more activities on their scorecard will receive a free face mask from the Keiki Rainbow Wellness Challenge Team!

Please return the form to your child’s teacher if they are in-person, or via the google form if they are distance learners, by MONDAY, MAY 10th, 2021.  All students that complete the challenge will receive a keiki mask, but we MUST receive a completed form by MAY 10th.

We are also raising money for our annual Spring Olympics fundraiser.  In years past, at the end of the 3rd quarter, we would hold this annual school wide fundraising event to help promote health and wellness on campus, and to raise funds for various programs. This year, our goal is to raise $25,000. These funds will be used to support student learning in the areas of Project Based Learning, STEAM Curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), Covid safety supplies, our Drama program, and Scientific Inquiry.

This Halloween, the Hawai‘i Department of Health recommends celebrating with your household members at home and avoiding traditional door-to-door trick or treating where treats are handed to children or children take candy from a shared bucket.

These are high-risk activities as they can result in close contact and crowding among people outside your household.

Please watch the short PSA video to learn more about how to avoid high risk Halloween activities.
