Hui O Momilani

CSforALL Night

SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, December 6th, 2018

All of the 400+ students at Momilani Elementary are joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during December 3-9, 2018. To build on this and help generate more awareness and support for this effort, our PTSO (Hui O Momilani) is sponsoring the 4th Annual CS for ALL Night!

This is an event with a focus on educating students, parents, and the community about the impact computer science has on the future. As we work together to prepare our students to be college and career ready, here are some interesting stats about computer science in Hawaii:

  • 1,566 open computing jobs (5.4x the state average demand rate)
  • An average starting salary of $81,837
  • Existing open jobs alone represent a $128,157,212 opportunity in terms of annual salary
  • Only 290 computer science AP exams were taken by high school students in Hawaii (2017)

The event features hands on activities based on the 5 core computer science concepts; computing systems, networks and the internet, data analysis, algorithms and programming, and impacts of computing. These activities were designed to bridge the gap between concept and application. These concepts empower students to see the wide range of opportunities computer science offers. We further reinforce the significance by inviting industry professionals to partner with our school and demonstrate how computer science impacts their fields.
